Frank Mittermeier, a gunsmith by trade, wanted the best tools to use and sell.  In 1936 he went to Germany where he met with David Strassmann & Co., one of Germany’s finest producers of wood carving tools.  They formed a strong friendship which now, almost 80 yrs. later, is still growing stronger.  (The Dastra-Woodscrew large pro tools are stamped with FM before being sent to New York and FM Inc. helped Dastra develop the bright finish for the American market which has proven so successful for their European market as well.)   These quality woodcarving tools are a hit with carving schools in Quebec, Montreal and from Alaska to Maine.  The list of woodcarvers and sculptors that rely on Dastra tools for their work is an impressive one and still growing longer.  Users of these tools know that they are getting a tool that they can depend on for generations of hard work.
